Yunus

1

الرalif-lam-ra
Alif Lam Ra.
تِلْكَtil'ka
These
ءَايَاتُāyātu
(are the) verses
الْكِتَابِl-kitābi
(of) the Book
الْحَكِيمِl-ḥakīmi
the wise.
Alif Lam Ra These are the verses of the wise Book.

2

أَكَانَakāna
Is it
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsi
for the mankind
عَجَبًاʿajaban
a wonder
أَنْan
that
أَوْحَيْنَاawḥaynā
We revealed
إِلَىilā
to
رَجُلٍrajulin
a man
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
from (among) them
أَنْan
that,
أَنْذِرِandhiri
"Warn
النَّاسَl-nāsa
the mankind
وَبَشِّرِwabashiri
and give glad tidings
الَّذِينَalladhīna
(to) those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe
أَنَّanna
that
لَهُمْlahum
for them
قَدَمَqadama
(will be) a respectable position
صِدْقٍṣid'qin
(will be) a respectable position
عِنْدَʿinda
near
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
their Lord?"
قَالَqāla
Said
الْكَافِرُونَl-kāfirūna
the disbelievers,
إِنَّinna
"Indeed,
هَذَاhādhā
this
لَسَاحِرٌlasāḥirun
(is) surely a magician
مُبِينٌmubīnun
obvious."
Is it so surprising to people that We have revealed to a man from among them that he should warn people, and give glad news to those who believe, that they are on a sure footing with their Lord? [Yet] those who disbelieve say, ‘This man is clearly a sorcerer.’

3

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
رَبَّكُمُrabbakumu
your Lord
اللَّهُl-lahu
(is) Allah
الَّذِيalladhī
the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqa
created
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens
وَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍa
and the earth
فِي
in
سِتَّةِsittati
six
أَيَّامٍayyāmin
periods,
ثُمَّthumma
then
اسْتَوَىis'tawā
He established
عَلَىʿalā
on
الْعَرْشِl-ʿarshi
the Throne,
يُدَبِّرُyudabbiru
disposing
الْأَمْرَl-amra
the affairs.
مَا
Not
مِنْmin
(is) any intercessor
شَفِيعٍshafīʿin
(is) any intercessor
إِلَّاillā
except
مِنْmin
after
بَعْدِbaʿdi
after
إِذْنِهِidh'nihi
His permission.
ذَلِكُمُdhālikumu
That
اللَّهُl-lahu
(is) Allah,
رَبُّكُمْrabbukum
your Lord,
فَاعْبُدُوهُfa-uʿ'budūhu
so worship Him.
أَفَلَاafalā
Then will not
تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūna
you remember?
Your Lord is God who created the heavens and earth in six Days, then established Himself on the Throne, governing everything; there is no one that can intercede with Him, unless He has first given permission: this is God your Lord so worship Him. How can you not take heed?

4

إِلَيْهِilayhi
To Him,
مَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukum
(will be) your return
جَمِيعًاjamīʿan
[all].
وَعْدَwaʿda
Promise
اللَّهِl-lahi
(of) Allah
حَقًّاḥaqqan
(is) true.
إِنَّهُinnahu
Indeed, He
يَبْدَؤُاyabda-u
originates
الْخَلْقَl-khalqa
the creation,
ثُمَّthumma
then
يُعِيدُهُyuʿīduhu
He repeats it,
لِيَجْزِيَliyajziya
that He may reward
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُواwaʿamilū
and did
الصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥāti
the good deeds,
بِالْقِسْطِbil-qis'ṭi
in justice.
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
But those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieved,
لَهُمْlahum
for them
شَرَابٌsharābun
(will be) a drink
مِنْmin
of
حَمِيمٍḥamīmin
boiling fluids
وَعَذَابٌwaʿadhābun
and a punishment
أَلِيمٌalīmun
painful,
بِمَاbimā
because
كَانُواkānū
they used (to)
يَكْفُرُونَyakfurūna
disbelieve.
It is to Him you shall all return––that is a true promise from God. It was He who created [you] in the first place, and He will do so again, so that He may justly reward those who believe and do good deeds. But the disbelievers will have a drink of scalding water, and agonizing torment, because they persistently disbelieved.

5

هُوَhuwa
He
الَّذِيalladhī
(is) the One Who
جَعَلَjaʿala
made
الشَّمْسَl-shamsa
the sun
ضِيَاءًḍiyāan
a shining light,
وَالْقَمَرَwal-qamara
and the moon
نُورًاnūran
a reflected light
وَقَدَّرَهُwaqaddarahu
and determined for it
مَنَازِلَmanāzila
phases,
لِتَعْلَمُواlitaʿlamū
that you may know
عَدَدَʿadada
(the) number
السِّنِينَl-sinīna
(of) the years
وَالْحِسَابَwal-ḥisāba
and the count (of time).
مَا
Not
خَلَقَkhalaqa
created
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah
ذَلِكَdhālika
that
إِلَّاillā
except
بِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqi
in truth.
يُفَصِّلُyufaṣṣilu
He explains
الْءَايَاتِl-āyāti
the Signs
لِقَوْمٍliqawmin
for a people
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna
(who) know.
It is He who made the sun a shining radiance and the moon a light, determining phases for it so that you might know the number of years and how to calculate time. God did not create all these without a true purpose; He explains His signs to those who understand.

6

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
فِي
in
اخْتِلَافِikh'tilāfi
(the) alternation
اللَّيْلِal-layli
(of) the night
وَالنَّهَارِwal-nahāri
and the day
وَمَاwamā
and what
خَلَقَkhalaqa
Allah has created
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah has created
فِي
in
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens,
وَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍi
and the earth
لَءَايَاتٍlaāyātin
(are) Signs
لِقَوْمٍliqawmin
for a people
يَتَّقُونَyattaqūna
who are God conscious.
In the succession of night and day, and in what God created in the heavens and earth, there truly are signs for those who are aware of Him.

7

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
لَا
(do) not
يَرْجُونَyarjūna
expect
لِقَاءَنَاliqāanā
the meeting with Us
وَرَضُواwaraḍū
and are pleased
بِالْحَيَوةِbil-ḥayati
with the life
الدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā
(of) the world,
وَاطْمَأَنُّواwa-iṭ'ma-annū
and feel satisfied
بِهَاbihā
with it
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
and those -
هُمْhum
they
عَنْʿan
(are) of
ءَايَاتِنَاāyātinā
Our Signs,
غَافِلُونَghāfilūna
heedless.
Those who do not expect to meet Us and are pleased with the life of this world, contenting themselves with it and paying no heed to Our signs,

8

أُولَئِكَulāika
Those -
مَأْوَاهُمُmawāhumu
their abode
النَّارُl-nāru
(will be) the Fire,
بِمَاbimā
for what
كَانُواkānū
they used (to)
يَكْسِبُونَyaksibūna
earn.
shall have the Fire for their home because of what they used to do.

9

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believed
وَعَمِلُواwaʿamilū
and did
الصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥāti
good deeds,
يَهْدِيهِمْyahdīhim
(will) guide them
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhum
their Lord,
بِإِيمَانِهِمْbiīmānihim
by their faith.
تَجْرِيtajrī
Will flow
مِنْmin
from
تَحْتِهِمُtaḥtihimu
underneath them
الْأَنْهَارُl-anhāru
the rivers,
فِي
in
جَنَّاتِjannāti
Gardens
النَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi
(of) Delight.
But as for those who believe and do good deeds, their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Streams will flow at their feet in the Gardens of Bliss.

10

دَعْوَاهُمْdaʿwāhum
Their prayer
فِيهَاfīhā
therein
سُبْحَانَكَsub'ḥānaka
(will be), "Glory be to You,
اللَّهُمَّl-lahuma
O Allah!"
وَتَحِيَّتُهُمْwataḥiyyatuhum
And their greeting
فِيهَاfīhā
therein (will be),
سَلَامٌsalāmun
"Peace."
وَءَاخِرُwaākhiru
And the last
دَعْوَاهُمْdaʿwāhum
(of) their call
أَنِani
(will be) [that]
الْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu
"All the Praise be
لِلَّهِlillahi
to Allah,
رَبِّrabbi
Lord
الْعَالَمِينَl-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds."
Their prayer in them will be, ‘Glory be to You, God!’ their greeting, ‘Peace,’ and the last part of their prayer, ‘Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds.’
