The Striking Calamity!
The Crashing Blow!

الْقَارِعَةُl-qāriʿatu
(is) the Striking Calamity?
What is the Crashing Blow?

وَمَاwamā
And what
أَدْرَاكَadrāka
will make you know
مَاmā
what
الْقَارِعَةُl-qāriʿatu
(is) the Striking Calamity?
What will explain to you what the Crashing Blow is?

يَوْمَyawma
(The) Day
يَكُونُyakūnu
will be
النَّاسُl-nāsu
the mankind
كَالْفَرَاشِkal-farāshi
like moths,
الْمَبْثُوثِl-mabthūthi
scattered,
On a Day when people will be like scattered moths
5
وَتَكُونُwatakūnu
And will be
الْجِبَالُl-jibālu
the mountains
كَالْعِهْنِkal-ʿih'ni
like wool,
الْمَنْفُوشِl-manfūshi
fluffed up.
and the mountains like tufts of wool,
6
فَأَمَّاfa-ammā
Then as for
مَنْman
(him) whose
ثَقُلَتْthaqulat
(are) heavy
مَوَازِينُهُmawāzīnuhu
his scales,
the one whose good deeds are heavy on the scales
7
فَهُوَfahuwa
Then he
فِيfī
(will be) in
عِيشَةٍʿīshatin
a life,
رَاضِيَةٍrāḍiyatin
pleasant.
will have a pleasant life,
8
وَأَمَّاwa-ammā
But as for
مَنْman
(him) whose
خَفَّتْkhaffat
(are) light
مَوَازِينُهُmawāzīnuhu
his scales,
but the one whose good deeds are light
9
فَأُمُّهُfa-ummuhu
His abode
هَاوِيَةٌhāwiyatun
(will be the) Pit.
will have the Bottomless Pit for his home––
10
وَمَاwamā
And what
أَدْرَاكَadrāka
will make you know
مَاmā
what
هِيَهْhiyah
it is?
what will explain to you what that is?––
