Surah Memorizer Beta

Ibrahim

1

الرalif-lam-ra
Alif Laam Ra.
كِتَابٌkitābun
A Book
أَنْزَلْنَاهُanzalnāhu
which We have revealed
إِلَيْكَilayka
to you,
لِتُخْرِجَlitukh'rija
so that you may bring out
النَّاسَl-nāsa
the mankind
مِنَmina
from
الظُّلُمَاتِl-ẓulumāti
the darkness[es]
إِلَىilā
to
النُّورِl-nūri
the light
بِإِذْنِbi-idh'ni
by the permission
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
(of) their Lord,
إِلَىilā
to
صِرَاطِṣirāṭi
the Path
الْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi
(of) the All-Mighty,
الْحَمِيدِl-ḥamīdi
the Praiseworthy.
Alif Lam Ra This is a Scripture which We have sent down to you [Prophet] so that, with their Lord’s permission, you may bring people from the depths of darkness into light, to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy One,

2

اللَّهِal-lahi
Allah
الَّذِيalladhī
(is) the One
لَهُlahu
to Him (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِي
(is) in
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَاwamā
and whatever
فِي
(is) in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the earth.
وَوَيْلٌwawaylun
And woe
لِلْكَافِرِينَlil'kāfirīna
to the disbelievers
مِنْmin
from
عَذَابٍʿadhābin
the punishment
شَدِيدٍshadīdin
severe.
God, to whom everything in the heavens and earth belongs. How terrible will be the torment of those who ignore [Him],

3

الَّذِينَalladhīna
Those who
يَسْتَحِبُّونَyastaḥibbūna
love more
الْحَيَوةَl-ḥayata
the life
الدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā
(of) the world
عَلَىʿalā
than
الْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhirati
the Hereafter,
وَيَصُدُّونَwayaṣuddūna
and hinder
عَنْʿan
from
سَبِيلِsabīli
(the) Path
اللَّهِl-lahi
(of) Allah,
وَيَبْغُونَهَاwayabghūnahā
and seek in it
عِوَجًاʿiwajan
crookedness,
أُولَئِكَulāika
those
فِي
[in]
ضَلَالٍḍalālin
(are) far astray.
بَعِيدٍbaʿīdin
(are) far astray.
those who prefer the life of this world over the life to come, who turn others from God’s way, trying to make it crooked: such people have gone far astray.

4

وَمَاwamā
And not
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnā
We sent
مِنْmin
any
رَسُولٍrasūlin
Messenger
إِلَّاillā
except
بِلِسَانِbilisāni
with the language
قَوْمِهِqawmihi
(of) his people
لِيُبَيِّنَliyubayyina
so that he might make clear
لَهُمْlahum
for them.
فَيُضِلُّfayuḍillu
Then Allah lets go astray
اللَّهُl-lahu
Then Allah lets go astray
مَنْman
whom
يَشَاءُyashāu
He wills
وَيَهْدِيwayahdī
and guides
مَنْman
whom
يَشَاءُyashāu
He wills.
وَهُوَwahuwa
And He
الْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty,
الْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise.
We have never sent a messenger who did not use his own people’s language to make things clear for them. But still God leaves whoever He will to stray, and guides whoever He will: He is the Almighty, the All Wise.

5

وَلَقَدْwalaqad
And verily
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnā
We sent
مُوسَىmūsā
Musa
بِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātinā
with Our Signs,
أَنْan
that
أَخْرِجْakhrij
"Bring out
قَوْمَكَqawmaka
your people
مِنَmina
from
الظُّلُمَاتِl-ẓulumāti
the darkness[es]
إِلَىilā
to
النُّورِl-nūri
the light.
وَذَكِّرْهُمْwadhakkir'hum
And remind them
بِأَيَّامِbi-ayyāmi
of the days
اللَّهِl-lahi
(of) Allah."
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
فِي
in
ذَلِكَdhālika
that
لَءَايَاتٍlaāyātin
surely (are) the signs
لِكُلِّlikulli
for everyone
صَبَّارٍṣabbārin
patient
شَكُورٍshakūrin
and thankful.
We sent Moses with Our signs: ‘Bring out your people from the depths of darkness into light. Remind them of the Days of God:there truly are signs in this for every steadfast, thankful person.’

6

وَإِذْwa-idh
And when
قَالَqāla
said
مُوسَىmūsā
Musa
لِقَوْمِهِliqawmihi
to his people,
اذْكُرُواudh'kurū
"Remember
نِعْمَةَniʿ'mata
(the) Favor of Allah
اللَّهِl-lahi
(the) Favor of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykum
upon you,
إِذْidh
when
أَنْجَاكُمْanjākum
He saved you
مِنْmin
from
ءَالِāli
(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun,
يَسُومُونَكُمْyasūmūnakum
they were afflicting you
سُوءَsūa
(with) evil
الْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābi
torment
وَيُذَبِّحُونَwayudhabbiḥūna
and were slaughtering
أَبْنَاءَكُمْabnāakum
your sons
وَيَسْتَحْيُونَwayastaḥyūna
and letting live
نِسَاءَكُمْnisāakum
your women.
وَفِيwafī
And in
ذَلِكُمْdhālikum
that
بَلَاءٌbalāon
(was) a trial
مِنْmin
from
رَبِّكُمْrabbikum
your Lord
عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmun
great."
And so Moses said to his people, ‘Remember God’s blessing on you when He saved you from Pharaoh’s people, who were inflicting terrible suffering on you, slaughtering your sons and sparing only your women––that was a severe test from your Lord!

7

وَإِذْwa-idh
And when
تَأَذَّنَta-adhana
proclaimed
رَبُّكُمْrabbukum
your Lord,
لَئِنْla-in
"If
شَكَرْتُمْshakartum
you are thankful,
لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْla-azīdannakum
surely I will increase you;
وَلَئِنْwala-in
but if
كَفَرْتُمْkafartum
you are ungrateful
إِنَّinna
indeed,
عَذَابِيʿadhābī
My punishment
لَشَدِيدٌlashadīdun
(is) surely severe."
Remember that He promised, “If you are thankful, I will give you more, but if you are thankless, My punishment is terrible indeed.” ’

8

وَقَالَwaqāla
And said
مُوسَىmūsā
Musa,
إِنْin
"If
تَكْفُرُواtakfurū
you disbelieve,
أَنْتُمْantum
you
وَمَنْwaman
and whoever
فِي
(is) in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the earth
جَمِيعًاjamīʿan
all,
فَإِنَّfa-inna
then indeed,
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
لَغَنِيٌّlaghaniyyun
certainly (is) Free of need,
حَمِيدٌḥamīdun
Praiseworthy."
And Moses said, ‘Even if you, together with everybody else on earth, are thankless, God is self-sufficient, worthy of all praise.’

9

أَلَمْalam
Has not
يَأْتِكُمْyatikum
come to you
نَبَؤُاnaba-u
(the) news
الَّذِينَalladhīna
(of) those who
مِنْmin
(were) before you,
قَبْلِكُمْqablikum
(were) before you,
قَوْمِqawmi
the people
نُوحٍnūḥin
of Nuh,
وَعَادٍwaʿādin
and Aad
وَثَمُودَwathamūda
and Thamud
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
and those who
مِنْmin
(were) after them?
بَعْدِهِمْbaʿdihim
(were) after them?
لَا
None
يَعْلَمُهُمْyaʿlamuhum
knows them
إِلَّاillā
except
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah.
جَاءَتْهُمْjāathum
Came to them
رُسُلُهُمْrusuluhum
their Messengers
بِالْبَيِّنَاتِbil-bayināti
with clear proofs
فَرَدُّواfaraddū
but they returned
أَيْدِيَهُمْaydiyahum
their hands
فِي
in
أَفْوَاهِهِمْafwāhihim
their mouths
وَقَالُواwaqālū
and they said,
إِنَّاinnā
"Indeed we
كَفَرْنَاkafarnā
[we] disbelieve
بِمَاbimā
in what
أُرْسِلْتُمْur'sil'tum
you have been sent
بِهِbihi
with [it],
وَإِنَّاwa-innā
and indeed, we
لَفِيlafī
(are) surely in
شَكٍّshakkin
doubt
مِمَّاmimmā
about what
تَدْعُونَنَاtadʿūnanā
you invite us
إِلَيْهِilayhi
to it
مُرِيبٍmurībin
suspicious."
Have you not heard about those who went before you, the people of Noah, Ad, Thamud, and those who lived after them, known only to God? Their messengers came to them with clear proof, but they tried to silence them, saying, ‘We do not believe the message with which you were sent. We have disturbing doubts about what you are asking us to do.’

10

قَالَتْqālat
Said
رُسُلُهُمْrusuluhum
their Messengers,
أَفِيafī
"Can (there) be about
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
شَكٌّshakkun
any doubt,
فَاطِرِfāṭiri
(the) Creator
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍi
and the earth?
يَدْعُوكُمْyadʿūkum
He invites you,
لِيَغْفِرَliyaghfira
so that He may forgive
لَكُمْlakum
for you
مِنْmin
[of]
ذُنُوبِكُمْdhunūbikum
your sins,
وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْwayu-akhirakum
and give you
إِلَىilā
for
أَجَلٍajalin
a term
مُسَمًّىmusamman
appointed."
قَالُواqālū
They said,
إِنْin
"Not
أَنْتُمْantum
you
إِلَّاillā
(are) but
بَشَرٌbasharun
a human
مِثْلُنَاmith'lunā
like us,
تُرِيدُونَturīdūna
you wish
أَنْan
to
تَصُدُّونَاtaṣuddūnā
hinder us
عَمَّاʿammā
from what
كَانَkāna
used to
يَعْبُدُyaʿbudu
worship
ءَابَاؤُنَاābāunā
our forefathers.
فَأْتُونَاfatūnā
So bring us
بِسُلْطَانٍbisul'ṭānin
an authority
مُبِينٍmubīnin
clear."
Their messengers answered, ‘Can there be any doubt about God, the Creator of the heavens and earth? He calls you to Him in order to forgive you your sins and let you enjoy your life until the appointed hour.’ But they said, ‘You are only men like us. You want to turn us away from what our forefathers used to worship. Bring us clear proof then, [if you can].’
