An-Nahl

1

أَتَىatā
Will come
أَمْرُamru
(the) command of Allah
اللَّهِl-lahi
(the) command of Allah
فَلَاfalā
so (do) not
تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُtastaʿjilūhu
(be) impatient for it.
سُبْحَانَهُsub'ḥānahu
Glorified is He
وَتَعَالَىwataʿālā
and Exalted (is) He
عَمَّاʿammā
above what
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūna
they associate.
God’s Judgement is coming, so do not ask to bring it on sooner. Glory be to Him! He is far above anything they join with Him!

يُنَزِّلُyunazzilu
He sends down
الْمَلَائِكَةَl-malāikata
the Angels
بِالرُّوحِbil-rūḥi
with the inspiration
مِنْmin
of
أَمْرِهِamrihi
His Command,
عَلَىʿalā
upon
مَنْman
whom
يَشَاءُyashāu
He wills
مِنْmin
of
عِبَادِهِʿibādihi
His slaves,
أَنْan
that
أَنْذِرُواandhirū
"Warn
أَنَّهُannahu
that [He]
لَاlā
(there is) no
إِلَهَilāha
god
إِلَّاillā
except
أَنَاanā
Me,
فَاتَّقُونِfa-ittaqūni
so fear Me."
He sends down angels with inspiration at His command, to whichever of His servants He chooses, to give [His] warning: ‘There is no god but Me, so beware of Me.’

خَلَقَkhalaqa
He created
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens
وَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍa
and the earth,
بِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqi
in truth.
تَعَالَىtaʿālā
Exalted is He
عَمَّاʿammā
above what
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūna
they associate.
He created the heavens and earth for a true purpose, and He is far above whatever they join with Him!

خَلَقَkhalaqa
He created
الْإِنْسَانَl-insāna
the human kind
مِنْmin
from
نُطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatin
a minute quantity of
فَإِذَاfa-idhā
then behold,
هُوَhuwa
he
خَصِيمٌkhaṣīmun
(is) an opponent
مُبِينٌmubīnun
clear.
He created man from a drop of fluid, and yet man openly challenges Him.

وَالْأَنْعَامَwal-anʿāma
And the cattle,
خَلَقَهَاkhalaqahā
He created them
لَكُمْlakum
for you,
فِيهَاfīhā
in them
دِفْءٌdif'on
(is) warmth
وَمَنَافِعُwamanāfiʿu
and benefits
وَمِنْهَاwamin'hā
and from them
تَأْكُلُونَtakulūna
you eat.
And livestock––He created them too. You derive warmth and other benefits from them: you get food from them;

وَلَكُمْwalakum
And for you
فِيهَاfīhā
in them
جَمَالٌjamālun
(is) beauty
حِينَḥīna
when
تُرِيحُونَturīḥūna
you bring them in
وَحِينَwaḥīna
and when
تَسْرَحُونَtasraḥūna
you take them out.
you find beauty in them when you bring them home to rest and when you drive them out to pasture.

وَتَحْمِلُwataḥmilu
And they carry
أَثْقَالَكُمْathqālakum
your loads
إِلَىilā
to
بَلَدٍbaladin
a land
لَمْlam
not
تَكُونُواtakūnū
you could
بَالِغِيهِbālighīhi
reach it
إِلَّاillā
except
بِشِقِّbishiqqi
with great trouble
الْأَنْفُسِl-anfusi
(to) yourselves.
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
رَبَّكُمْrabbakum
your Lord
لَرَءُوفٌlaraūfun
surely is Most Kind,
رَحِيمٌraḥīmun
Most Merciful.
They carry your loads to lands you yourselves could not reach without great hardship––truly your Lord is kind and merciful––

وَالْخَيْلَwal-khayla
And horses
وَالْبِغَالَwal-bighāla
and mules
وَالْحَمِيرَwal-ḥamīra
and donkeys
لِتَرْكَبُوهَاlitarkabūhā
for you to ride them
وَزِينَةًwazīnatan
and (as) adornment.
وَيَخْلُقُwayakhluqu
And He creates
مَاmā
what
لَاlā
not
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna
you know.
horses, mules, and donkeys for you to ride and use for show, and other things you know nothing about.

9

وَعَلَىwaʿalā
And upon
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
قَصْدُqaṣdu
(is) the direction
السَّبِيلِl-sabīli
(of) the way,
وَمِنْهَاwamin'hā
and among them
جَائِرٌjāirun
(are) crooked.
وَلَوْwalaw
And if
شَاءَshāa
He willed,
لَهَدَاكُمْlahadākum
surely He would have guided you
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīna
all.
God points out the right path, for some paths lead the wrong way: if He wished, He could guide you all.

هُوَhuwa
He
الَّذِيalladhī
(is) the One Who
أَنْزَلَanzala
sends down
مِنَmina
from
السَّمَاءِl-samāi
the sky
مَاءًmāan
water
لَكُمْlakum
for you
مِنْهُmin'hu
of it
شَرَابٌsharābun
(is) drink,
وَمِنْهُwamin'hu
and from it
شَجَرٌshajarun
(grows) vegetation
فِيهِfīhi
in which
تُسِيمُونَtusīmūna
you pasture your cattle.
It is He who sends down water for you from the sky, from which comes a drink for you, and the shrubs that you feed to your animals.
