المalif-lam-meem

Alif Lam Mim

2

ذَلِكَdhālika
That
الْكِتَابُl-kitābu
(is) the book
لَاlā
no
رَيْبَrayba
doubt
فِيهِfīhi
in it,
هُدًىhudan
a Guidance
لِلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīna
for the God-conscious.
This is the Scripture in which there is no doubt, containing guidance for those who are mindful of God,

الَّذِينَalladhīna
Those who
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna
believe
بِالْغَيْبِbil-ghaybi
in the unseen,
وَيُقِيمُونَwayuqīmūna
and establish
الصَّلَوةَl-ṣalata
the prayer,
وَمِمَّاwamimmā
and out of what
رَزَقْنَاهُمْrazaqnāhum
We have provided them
يُنْفِقُونَyunfiqūna
they spend.
who believe in the unseen,keep up the prayer, and give out of what We have provided for them;

وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
And those who
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna
believe
بِمَاbimā
in what
أُنْزِلَunzila
(is) sent down
إِلَيْكَilayka
to you
وَمَاwamā
and what
أُنْزِلَunzila
was sent down
مِنْmin
from
قَبْلِكَqablika
before you
وَبِالْءَاخِرَةِwabil-ākhirati
and in the Hereafter
هُمْhum
they
يُوقِنُونَyūqinūna
firmly believe.
those who believe in the revelation sent down to you [Muhammad], and in what was sent before you, those who have firm faith in the Hereafter.

أُولَئِكَulāika
Those
عَلَىʿalā
(are) on
هُدًىhudan
Guidance
مِنْmin
from
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
their Lord,
وَأُولَئِكَwa-ulāika
and those -
هُمُhumu
they
الْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful ones.
Such people are following their Lord’s guidance and it is they who will prosper.

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve[d],
سَوَاءٌsawāon
(it) is same
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim
to them
ءَأَنْذَرْتَهُمْa-andhartahum
whether you warn them
أَمْam
or
لَمْlam
not
تُنْذِرْهُمْtundhir'hum
you warn them,
لَاlā
not
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna
they believe.
As for those who disbelieve, it makes no difference whether you warn them or not: they will not believe.

خَتَمَkhatama
Has set a seal
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah
عَلَىʿalā
on
قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihim
their hearts
وَعَلَىwaʿalā
and on
سَمْعِهِمْsamʿihim
their hearing,
وَعَلَىwaʿalā
and on
أَبْصَارِهِمْabṣārihim
their vision
غِشَاوَةٌghishāwatun
(is) a veil.
وَلَهُمْwalahum
And for them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmun
great.
God has sealed their hearts and their ears, and their eyes are covered. They will have great torment.

وَمِنَwamina
And of
النَّاسِl-nāsi
the people
مَنْman
(are some) who
يَقُولُyaqūlu
say,
ءَامَنَّاāmannā
"We believed
بِاللَّهِbil-lahi
in Allah
وَبِالْيَوْمِwabil-yawmi
and in the Day
الْءَاخِرِl-ākhiri
[the] Last,"
وَمَاwamā
but not
هُمْhum
they
بِمُؤْمِنِينَbimu'minīna
(are) believers (at all).
Some people say, ‘We believe in God and the Last Day,’ when really they do not believe.

يُخَادِعُونَyukhādiʿūna
They seek to deceive
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
and those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe[d],
وَمَاwamā
and not
يَخْدَعُونَyakhdaʿūna
they deceive
إِلَّاillā
except
أَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahum
themselves,
وَمَاwamā
and not
يَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūna
they realize (it).
They seek to deceive God and the believers but they only deceive themselves, though they do not realize it.

فِيfī
In
قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihim
their hearts
مَرَضٌmaraḍun
(is) a disease,
فَزَادَهُمُfazādahumu
so has increased them
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah
مَرَضًاmaraḍan
(in) disease;
وَلَهُمْwalahum
and for them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌalīmun
painful
بِمَاbimā
because
كَانُواkānū
they used to
يَكْذِبُونَyakdhibūna
[they] lie.
There is a disease in their hearts, to which God has added more: agonizing torment awaits them for their persistent lying.
