Ta Ha.

مَا
Not
أَنْزَلْنَاanzalnā
We (have) sent down
عَلَيْكَʿalayka
to you
الْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna
the Quran
لِتَشْقَىlitashqā
that you be distressed
It was not to distress you [Prophet] that We sent down the Quran to you,

إِلَّاillā
(But)
تَذْكِرَةًtadhkiratan
(as) a reminder
لِمَنْliman
for (those) who
يَخْشَىyakhshā
fear
but as a reminder for those who hold God in awe,

4

تَنْزِيلًاtanzīlan
A revelation
مِمَّنْmimman
from (He) Who
خَلَقَkhalaqa
created
الْأَرْضَl-arḍa
the earth
وَالسَّمَاوَاتِwal-samāwāti
and the heavens
الْعُلَىl-ʿulā
[the] high,
a revelation from the One who created the earth and the high heaven,

الرَّحْمَنُal-raḥmānu
The Most Gracious
عَلَىʿalā
over
الْعَرْشِl-ʿarshi
the Throne
اسْتَوَىis'tawā
is established.
the Lord of Mercy, established on the throne.

لَهُlahu
To Him (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِي
(is) in
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَاwamā
and whatever
فِي
(is) in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the earth,
وَمَاwamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā
(is) between them
وَمَاwamā
and whatever
تَحْتَtaḥta
(is) under
الثَّرَىl-tharā
the soil.
Everything in the heavens and on earth, everything between them, everything beneath the soil, belongs to Him.

وَإِنْwa-in
And if
تَجْهَرْtajhar
you speak aloud
بِالْقَوْلِbil-qawli
the word,
فَإِنَّهُfa-innahu
then indeed, He
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamu
knows
السِّرَّl-sira
the secret
وَأَخْفَىwa-akhfā
and the more hidden.
Whatever you may say aloud, He knows what you keep secret and what is even more hidden.

اللَّهُal-lahu
Allah -
لَا
(there is) no
إِلَهَilāha
god
إِلَّاillā
except
هُوَhuwa
Him.
لَهُlahu
To Him (belong)
الْأَسْمَاءُl-asmāu
the Names,
الْحُسْنَىl-ḥus'nā
the Most Beautiful.
God––there is no god but Him––the most excellent names belong to Him.

وَهَلْwahal
And has
أَتَىكَatāka
come to you
حَدِيثُḥadīthu
the narration
مُوسَىmūsā
(of) Musa?
Has the story of Moses come to you [Prophet]?

إِذْidh
When
رَءَاraā
he saw
نَارًاnāran
a fire,
فَقَالَfaqāla
then he said
لِأَهْلِهِli-ahlihi
to his family,
امْكُثُواum'kuthū
"Stay here;
إِنِّيinnī
indeed, I
ءَانَسْتُānastu
[I] perceived
نَارًاnāran
a fire;
لَعَلِّيlaʿallī
perhaps I (can)
ءَاتِيكُمْātīkum
bring you
مِنْهَاmin'hā
therefrom
بِقَبَسٍbiqabasin
a burning brand,
أَوْaw
or
أَجِدُajidu
I find
عَلَىʿalā
at
النَّارِl-nāri
the fire
هُدًىhudan
guidance."
He saw a fire and said to his people, ‘Stay here––I can see a fire. Maybe I can bring you a flaming brand from it or find some guidance there.’
