Surah Memorizer Beta

Al-Qasas

1

طسمtta-seen-meem
Ta Seem Meem.
Ta Sin Mim

2

تِلْكَtil'ka
These
ءَايَاتُāyātu
(are the) Verses
الْكِتَابِl-kitābi
(of) the Book
الْمُبِينِl-mubīni
the clear.
These are the verses of the Scripture that makes things clear:

3

نَتْلُواnatlū
We recite
عَلَيْكَʿalayka
to you
مِنْmin
from
نَبَإِnaba-i
(the) news
مُوسَىmūsā
(of) Musa
وَفِرْعَوْنَwafir'ʿawna
and Firaun
بِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqi
in truth
لِقَوْمٍliqawmin
for a people
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna
who believe.
We recount to you [Prophet] part of the story of Moses and Pharaoh, setting out the truth for people who believe.

4

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna
Firaun
عَلَاʿalā
exalted himself
فِي
in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the land
وَجَعَلَwajaʿala
and made
أَهْلَهَاahlahā
its people
شِيَعًاshiyaʿan
(into) sects,
يَسْتَضْعِفُyastaḍʿifu
oppressing
طَائِفَةًṭāifatan
a group
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
among them,
يُذَبِّحُyudhabbiḥu
slaughtering
أَبْنَاءَهُمْabnāahum
their sons
وَيَسْتَحْيِيwayastaḥyī
and letting live
نِسَاءَهُمْnisāahum
their women.
إِنَّهُinnahu
Indeed, he
كَانَkāna
was
مِنَmina
of
الْمُفْسِدِينَl-muf'sidīna
the corrupters.
Pharaoh made himself high and mighty in the land and divided the people into different groups: one group he oppressed, slaughtering their sons and sparing their women––he was one of those who spread corruption––

5

وَنُرِيدُwanurīdu
And We wanted
أَنْan
to
نَمُنَّnamunna
bestow a favor
عَلَىʿalā
upon
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
اسْتُضْعِفُواus'tuḍ'ʿifū
were oppressed
فِي
in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the land
وَنَجْعَلَهُمْwanajʿalahum
and make them
أَئِمَّةًa-immatan
leaders
وَنَجْعَلَهُمُwanajʿalahumu
and make them
الْوَارِثِينَl-wārithīna
the inheritors,
but We wished to favour those who were oppressed in that land, to make them leaders, the ones to survive,

6

وَنُمَكِّنَwanumakkina
And [We] establish
لَهُمْlahum
them
فِي
in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the land
وَنُرِيَwanuriya
and show
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَامَانَwahāmāna
and Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَاwajunūdahumā
and their hosts
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
through them
مَا
what
كَانُواkānū
they were
يَحْذَرُونَyaḥdharūna
fearing.
to establish them in the land, and through them show Pharaoh, Haman, and their armies the very thing they feared.

7

وَأَوْحَيْنَاwa-awḥaynā
And We inspired
إِلَىilā
[to]
أُمِّummi
(the) mother
مُوسَىmūsā
(of) Musa
أَنْan
that,
أَرْضِعِيهِarḍiʿīhi
"Suckle him,
فَإِذَاfa-idhā
but when
خِفْتِkhif'ti
you fear
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi
for him,
فَأَلْقِيهِfa-alqīhi
then cast him
فِي
in(to)
الْيَمِّl-yami
the river
وَلَاwalā
and (do) not
تَخَافِيtakhāfī
fear
وَلَاwalā
and (do) not
تَحْزَنِيtaḥzanī
grieve.
إِنَّاinnā
Indeed, We
رَادُّوهُrāddūhu
(will) restore him
إِلَيْكِilayki
to you
وَجَاعِلُوهُwajāʿilūhu
and (will) make him
مِنَmina
of
الْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīna
the Messengers."
We inspired Moses’ mother, saying, ‘Suckle him, and then, when you fear for his safety, put him in the river: do not be afraid, and do not grieve, for We shall return him to you and make him a messenger.’

8

فَالْتَقَطَهُfal-taqaṭahu
Then picked him up
ءَالُālu
(the) family
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun
لِيَكُونَliyakūna
so that he might become
لَهُمْlahum
to them
عَدُوًّاʿaduwwan
an enemy
وَحَزَنًاwaḥazanan
and a grief.
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna
Firaun
وَهَامَانَwahāmāna
and Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَاwajunūdahumā
and their hosts
كَانُواkānū
were
خَاطِءِينَkhāṭiīna
sinners.
Pharaoh’s household picked him up––later to become an enemy and a source of grief for them: Pharaoh, Haman, and their armies were wrongdoers––

9

وَقَالَتِwaqālati
And said
امْرَأَتُim'ra-atu
(the) wife
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna
(of) Firaun,
قُرَّتُqurratu
"A comfort
عَيْنٍʿaynin
(of the) eye
لِي
for me
وَلَكَwalaka
and for you;
لَا
(Do) not
تَقْتُلُوهُtaqtulūhu
kill him;
عَسَىʿasā
perhaps
أَنْan
(that)
يَنْفَعَنَاyanfaʿanā
he may benefit us,
أَوْaw
or
نَتَّخِذَهُnattakhidhahu
we may take him
وَلَدًاwaladan
(as) a son."
وَهُمْwahum
And they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūna
perceive.
and Pharaoh’s wife said, ‘Here is a joy to behold for me and for you! Do not kill him: he may be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son.’ They did not realize what they were doing.

10

وَأَصْبَحَwa-aṣbaḥa
And became
فُؤَادُfuādu
(the) heart
أُمِّummi
(of the) mother
مُوسَىmūsā
(of) Musa
فَارِغًاfārighan
empty.
إِنْin
That,
كَادَتْkādat
she was near
لَتُبْدِيlatub'dī
(to) disclosing
بِهِbihi
about him,
لَوْلَاlawlā
if not
أَنْan
that
رَبَطْنَاrabaṭnā
We strengthened
عَلَىʿalā
[over]
قَلْبِهَاqalbihā
her heart,
لِتَكُونَlitakūna
so that she would be
مِنَmina
of
الْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna
the believers.
The next day, Moses’ mother felt a void in her heart––if We had not strengthened it to make her one of those who believe, she would have revealed everything about him––
