صsad
Saad.
وَالْقُرْءَانِwal-qur'āni
By the Quran
ذِيdhī
full (of) reminder.
الذِّكْرِl-dhik'ri
full (of) reminder.
Sad By the Quran with its reminding . . .!

بَلِbali
Nay,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve
فِيfī
(are) in
عِزَّةٍʿizzatin
self-glory
وَشِقَاقٍwashiqāqin
and opposition.
Yet the disbelievers are steeped in arrogance and hostility.

كَمْkam
How many
أَهْلَكْنَاahlaknā
We destroyed
مِنْmin
before them
قَبْلِهِمْqablihim
before them
مِنْmin
of
قَرْنٍqarnin
a generation,
فَنَادَوْاfanādaw
then they called out
وَلَاتَwalāta
when there (was) no longer
حِينَḥīna
time
مَنَاصٍmanāṣin
(for) escape.
How many generations We have destroyed before them! They all cried out, once it was too late, for escape.
4
وَعَجِبُواwaʿajibū
And they wonder
أَنْan
that
جَاءَهُمْjāahum
has come to them
مُنْذِرٌmundhirun
a warner
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
from themselves.
وَقَالَwaqāla
And said
الْكَافِرُونَl-kāfirūna
the disbelievers,
هَذَاhādhā
"This
سَاحِرٌsāḥirun
(is) a magician,
كَذَّابٌkadhābun
a liar.
The disbelievers think it strange that a prophet of their own people has come to warn them: they say, ‘He is just a lying sorcerer.
5
أَجَعَلَajaʿala
Has he made
الْءَالِهَةَl-ālihata
the gods
إِلَهًاilāhan
(into) one god?
وَاحِدًاwāḥidan
(into) one god?
إِنَّinna
Indeed
هَذَاhādhā
this
لَشَيْءٌlashayon
(is) certainly a thing
عُجَابٌʿujābun
curious."
How can he claim that all the gods are but one God? What an astonishing thing [to claim]!’
6
وَانْطَلَقَwa-inṭalaqa
And went forth
الْمَلَأُl-mala-u
the chiefs
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
among them
أَنِani
that,
امْشُواim'shū
"Continue,
وَاصْبِرُواwa-iṣ'birū
and be patient
عَلَىʿalā
over
ءَالِهَتِكُمْālihatikum
your gods.
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
هَذَاhādhā
this
لَشَيْءٌlashayon
(is) certainly a thing
يُرَادُyurādu
intended.
Their leaders depart, saying, ‘Walk away! Stay faithful to your gods! That is what you must do.

مَاmā
Not
سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nā
we heard
بِهَذَاbihādhā
of this
فِيfī
in
الْمِلَّةِl-milati
the religion
الْءَاخِرَةِl-ākhirati
the last.
إِنْin
Not
هَذَاhādhā
(is) this
إِلَّاillā
but
اخْتِلَاقٌikh'tilāqun
a fabrication.
We did not hear any such claim in the last religion: it is all an invention.
8
أَءُنزِلَa-unzila
Has been revealed
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi
to him
الذِّكْرُl-dhik'ru
the Message
مِنْmin
from
بَيْنِنَاbayninā
among us?"
بَلْbal
Nay,
هُمْhum
They
فِيfī
(are) in
شَكٍّshakkin
doubt
مِنْmin
about
ذِكْرِيdhik'rī
My Message.
بَلْbal
Nay,
لَمَّاlammā
not yet
يَذُوقُواyadhūqū
they have tasted
عَذَابِʿadhābi
My punishment.
Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?’ In fact they doubt My warning; in fact they have not tasted My punishment yet.
9
أَمْam
Or
عِنْدَهُمْʿindahum
have they
خَزَائِنُkhazāinu
(the) treasures
رَحْمَةِraḥmati
(of the) Mercy
رَبِّكَrabbika
(of) your Lord
الْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty,
الْوَهَّابِl-wahābi
the Bestower?
Do they possess the treasures of your Lord’s bounty, the Mighty, the All Giving?
10
أَمْam
Or
لَهُمْlahum
for them
مُلْكُmul'ku
(is the) dominion
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍi
and the earth
وَمَاwamā
and whatever
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā
(is) between them?
فَلْيَرْتَقُواfalyartaqū
Then let them ascend
فِيfī
by
الْأَسْبَابِl-asbābi
the means.
Do they control the heavens and earth and everything between? Let them climb their ropes:
