Surah Memorizer Beta

Az-Zumar

1

تَنْزِيلُtanzīlu
(The) revelation
الْكِتَابِl-kitābi
(of) the Book
مِنَmina
(is) from
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
الْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty,
الْحَكِيمِl-ḥakīmi
the All-Wise.
This Scripture is sent down from God the Mighty, the Wise.

2

إِنَّاinnā
Indeed, We
أَنْزَلْنَاanzalnā
[We] have revealed
إِلَيْكَilayka
to you
الْكِتَابَl-kitāba
the Book
بِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqi
in truth;
فَاعْبُدِfa-uʿ'budi
so worship
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
مُخْلِصًاmukh'liṣan
(being) sincere
لَهُlahu
to Him
الدِّينَl-dīna
(in) the religion.
It is We who sent down the Scripture to you [Prophet] with the Truth, so worship God with your total devotion:

3

أَلَاalā
Unquestionably,
لِلَّهِlillahi
for Allah
الدِّينُl-dīnu
(is) the religion
الْخَالِصُl-khāliṣu
the pure.
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
And those who
اتَّخَذُواittakhadhū
take
مِنْmin
besides Him
دُونِهِdūnihi
besides Him
أَوْلِيَاءَawliyāa
protectors,
مَا
"Not
نَعْبُدُهُمْnaʿbuduhum
we worship them
إِلَّاillā
except
لِيُقَرِّبُونَاliyuqarribūnā
that they may bring us near
إِلَىilā
to
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
زُلْفَىzul'fā
(in) nearness."
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumu
will judge
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahum
between them
فِي
in
مَا
what
هُمْhum
they
فِيهِfīhi
[in it]
يَخْتَلِفُونَyakhtalifūna
differ.
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يَهْدِيyahdī
guide
مَنْman
(one) who
هُوَhuwa
[he]
كَاذِبٌkādhibun
(is) a liar
كَفَّارٌkaffārun
and a disbeliever.
true devotion is due to God alone. [As for] those who choose other protectors beside Him, saying, ‘We only worship them because they bring us nearer to God,’ God Himself will judge between them regarding their differences. God does not guide any ungrateful liar.

4

لَوْlaw
If
أَرَادَarāda
Allah (had) intended
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah (had) intended
أَنْan
to
يَتَّخِذَyattakhidha
take
وَلَدًاwaladan
a son,
لَاصْطَفَىla-iṣ'ṭafā
surely, He (could) have chosen
مِمَّاmimmā
from what
يَخْلُقُyakhluqu
He creates
مَا
whatever
يَشَاءُyashāu
He willed.
سُبْحَانَهُsub'ḥānahu
Glory be to Him!
هُوَhuwa
He
اللَّهُl-lahu
(is) Allah
الْوَاحِدُl-wāḥidu
the One,
الْقَهَّارُl-qahāru
the Irresistible.
God could have chosen any of His creation He willed for offspring, but He is far above this! He is the One, the Almighty.

5

خَلَقَkhalaqa
He created
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens
وَالْأَرْضَwal-arḍa
and the earth
بِالْحَقِّbil-ḥaqi
in [the] truth.
يُكَوِّرُyukawwiru
He wraps
اللَّيْلَal-layla
the night
عَلَىʿalā
over
النَّهَارِl-nahāri
the day
وَيُكَوِّرُwayukawwiru
and wraps
النَّهَارَl-nahāra
the day
عَلَىʿalā
over
اللَّيْلِal-layli
the night.
وَسَخَّرَwasakhara
And He subjected
الشَّمْسَl-shamsa
the sun
وَالْقَمَرَwal-qamara
and the moon,
كُلٌّkullun
each
يَجْرِيyajrī
running
لِأَجَلٍli-ajalin
for a term
مُسَمًّىmusamman
specified.
أَلَاalā
Unquestionably,
هُوَhuwa
He
الْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty,
الْغَفَّارُl-ghafāru
the Oft-Forgiving.
He created the heavens and earth for a true purpose; He wraps the night around the day and the day around the night; He has subjected the sun and moon to run their courses for an appointed time; He is truly the Mighty, the Forgiving.

6

خَلَقَكُمْkhalaqakum
He created you
مِنْmin
from
نَفْسٍnafsin
a soul
وَاحِدَةٍwāḥidatin
single.
ثُمَّthumma
Then
جَعَلَjaʿala
He made
مِنْهَاmin'hā
from it
زَوْجَهَاzawjahā
its mate.
وَأَنْزَلَwa-anzala
And He sent down
لَكُمْlakum
for you
مِنَmina
of
الْأَنْعَامِl-anʿāmi
the cattle
ثَمَانِيَةَthamāniyata
eight
أَزْوَاجٍazwājin
kinds.
يَخْلُقُكُمْyakhluqukum
He creates you
فِي
in
بُطُونِbuṭūni
(the) wombs
أُمَّهَاتِكُمْummahātikum
(of) your mothers,
خَلْقًاkhalqan
creation
مِنْmin
after
بَعْدِbaʿdi
after
خَلْقٍkhalqin
creation,
فِي
in
ظُلُمَاتٍẓulumātin
darkness[es]
ثَلَاثٍthalāthin
three.
ذَلِكُمُdhālikumu
That
اللَّهُl-lahu
(is) Allah
رَبُّكُمْrabbukum
your Lord;
لَهُlahu
for Him
الْمُلْكُl-mul'ku
(is) the dominion.
لَا
(There is) no
إِلَهَilāha
god
إِلَّاillā
except
هُوَhuwa
He.
فَأَنَّىfa-annā
Then how
تُصْرَفُونَtuṣ'rafūna
are you turning away?
He created you all from a single being, from which He made its mate; He gave you four kinds of livestock in pairs; He creates you in your mothers’ wombs, in one stage after another, in threefold depths of darkness. Such is God, your Lord; He holds control, there is no god but Him. How can you turn away?

7

إِنْin
If
تَكْفُرُواtakfurū
you disbelieve
فَإِنَّfa-inna
then indeed,
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
غَنِيٌّghaniyyun
(is) free from need
عَنْكُمْʿankum
of you.
وَلَاwalā
And not
يَرْضَىyarḍā
He likes
لِعِبَادِهِliʿibādihi
in His slaves
الْكُفْرَl-kuf'ra
ungratefulness.
وَإِنْwa-in
And if
تَشْكُرُواtashkurū
you are grateful
يَرْضَهُyarḍahu
He likes it
لَكُمْlakum
in you.
وَلَاwalā
And not
تَزِرُtaziru
will bear
وَازِرَةٌwāziratun
bearer of burdens
وِزْرَwiz'ra
(the) burden
أُخْرَىukh'rā
(of) another.
ثُمَّthumma
Then
إِلَىilā
to
رَبِّكُمْrabbikum
your Lord
مَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukum
(is) your return,
فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْfayunabbi-ukum
then He will inform you
بِمَاbimā
about what
كُنْتُمْkuntum
you used to
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna
do.
إِنَّهُinnahu
Indeed, He
عَلِيمٌʿalīmun
(is) the All-Knower
بِذَاتِbidhāti
of what (is) in the breasts.
الصُّدُورِl-ṣudūri
of what (is) in the breasts.
If you are ungrateful, remember God has no need of you, yet He is not pleased by ingrati-tude in His servants; if you are grateful, He is pleased [to see] it in you. No soul will bear another’s burden. You will return to your Lord in the end and He will inform you of what you have done: He knows well what is in the depths of [your] hearts.

8

وَإِذَاwa-idhā
And when
مَسَّmassa
touches
الْإِنْسَانَl-insāna
[the] man
ضُرٌّḍurrun
adversity,
دَعَاdaʿā
he calls
رَبَّهُrabbahu
his Lord
مُنِيبًاmunīban
turning
إِلَيْهِilayhi
to Him;
ثُمَّthumma
then
إِذَاidhā
when
خَوَّلَهُkhawwalahu
He bestows on him
نِعْمَةًniʿ'matan
a favor
مِنْهُmin'hu
from Himself,
نَسِيَnasiya
he forgets
مَا
(for) what
كَانَkāna
he used to call
يَدْعُواyadʿū
he used to call
إِلَيْهِilayhi
[to] Him
مِنْmin
before,
قَبْلُqablu
before,
وَجَعَلَwajaʿala
and he sets up
لِلَّهِlillahi
to Allah
أَنْدَادًاandādan
rivals
لِيُضِلَّliyuḍilla
to mislead
عَنْʿan
from
سَبِيلِهِsabīlihi
His Path.
قُلْqul
Say,
تَمَتَّعْtamattaʿ
"Enjoy
بِكُفْرِكَbikuf'rika
in your disbelief
قَلِيلًاqalīlan
(for) a little.
إِنَّكَinnaka
Indeed, you
مِنْmin
(are) of
أَصْحَابِaṣḥābi
(the) companions
النَّارِl-nāri
(of) the Fire."
When man suffers some affliction, he prays to his Lord and turns to Him, but once he has been granted a favour from God, he forgets the One he had been praying to and sets up rivals to God, to make others stray from His path. Say, ‘Enjoy your ingratitude for a little while: you will be one of the inhabitants of the Fire.’

9

أَمَّنْamman
Is (one) who
هُوَhuwa
[he]
قَانِتٌqānitun
(is) devoutly obedient -
ءَانَاءَānāa
(during) hours
اللَّيْلِal-layli
(of) the night,
سَاجِدًاsājidan
prostrating
وَقَائِمًاwaqāiman
and standing,
يَحْذَرُyaḥdharu
fearing
الْءَاخِرَةَl-ākhirata
the Hereafter
وَيَرْجُواwayarjū
and hoping
رَحْمَةَraḥmata
(for the) Mercy
رَبِّهِrabbihi
(of) his Lord?
قُلْqul
Say,
هَلْhal
"Are
يَسْتَوِيyastawī
equal
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna
know
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
and those who
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna
know?"
إِنَّمَاinnamā
Only
يَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkaru
will take heed
أُولُواulū
those of understanding.
الْأَلْبَابِl-albābi
those of understanding.
What about someone who worships devoutly during the night, bowing down, standing in prayer, ever mindful of the life to come, hoping for his Lord’s mercy? Say, ‘How can those who know be equal to those who do not know?’ Only those who have understanding will take heed.

10

قُلْqul
Say,
يَاعِبَادِyāʿibādi
"O My slaves
الَّذِينَalladhīna
[those] who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe!
اتَّقُواittaqū
Fear
رَبَّكُمْrabbakum
your Lord.
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīna
For those who
أَحْسَنُواaḥsanū
do good
فِي
in
هَذِهِhādhihi
this
الدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā
world
حَسَنَةٌḥasanatun
(is) good,
وَأَرْضُwa-arḍu
and the earth
اللَّهِl-lahi
(of) Allah
وَاسِعَةٌwāsiʿatun
(is) spacious.
إِنَّمَاinnamā
Only
يُوَفَّىyuwaffā
will be paid back in full
الصَّابِرُونَl-ṣābirūna
the patient ones
أَجْرَهُمْajrahum
their reward
بِغَيْرِbighayri
without
حِسَابٍḥisābin
account."
Say, ‘[God says], believing servants, be mindful of your Lord! Those who do good in this world will have a good reward- God’s earth is wide––and those who persevere patiently will be given a full and unstinting reward.’
