حمhha-meem
Ha Meem.
Ha Mim

تَنْزِيلُtanzīlu
(The) revelation
الْكِتَابِl-kitābi
(of) the Book
مِنَmina
(is) from
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
الْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty,
الْعَلِيمِl-ʿalīmi
the All-Knower.
This Scripture is sent down from God, the Almighty, the All Knowing,

3

غَافِرِghāfiri
(The) Forgiver
الذَّنْبِl-dhanbi
(of) the sin,
وَقَابِلِwaqābili
and (the) Acceptor
التَّوْبِl-tawbi
(of) [the] repentance,
شَدِيدِshadīdi
severe
الْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi
(in) the punishment,
ذِيdhī
Owner (of) the abundance.
الطَّوْلِl-ṭawli
Owner (of) the abundance.
لَا
(There is) no
إِلَهَilāha
god
إِلَّاillā
except
هُوَhuwa
Him;
إِلَيْهِilayhi
to Him,
الْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru
(is) the final return.
Forgiver of sins and Accepter of repentance, severe in punishment, infinite in bounty. There is no god but Him; to Him is the ultimate return.

4

مَا
Not
يُجَادِلُyujādilu
dispute
فِي
concerning
ءَايَاتِāyāti
(the) Verses
اللَّهِl-lahi
(of) Allah
إِلَّاillā
except
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve,
فَلَاfalā
so (let) not
يَغْرُرْكَyaghrur'ka
deceive you
تَقَلُّبُهُمْtaqallubuhum
their movement
فِي
in
الْبِلَادِl-bilādi
the cities.
It is only the disbelievers who dispute God’s revelations. [Prophet], do not be dazzled by their movements back and forth across the land.

5

كَذَّبَتْkadhabat
Denied
قَبْلَهُمْqablahum
before them
قَوْمُqawmu
(the) people
نُوحٍnūḥin
(of) Nuh
وَالْأَحْزَابُwal-aḥzābu
and the factions
مِنْmin
after them,
بَعْدِهِمْbaʿdihim
after them,
وَهَمَّتْwahammat
and plotted
كُلُّkullu
every
أُمَّةٍummatin
nation
بِرَسُولِهِمْbirasūlihim
against their Messenger,
لِيَأْخُذُوهُliyakhudhūhu
to seize him,
وَجَادَلُواwajādalū
and they disputed
بِالْبَاطِلِbil-bāṭili
by falsehood
لِيُدْحِضُواliyud'ḥiḍū
to refute
بِهِbihi
thereby
الْحَقَّl-ḥaqa
the truth.
فَأَخَذْتُهُمْfa-akhadhtuhum
So I seized them.
فَكَيْفَfakayfa
Then how
كَانَkāna
was
عِقَابِʿiqābi
My penalty?
Before them the people of Noah rejected the truth and so did those who formed opposition after them: every community schemed to destroy its messenger and strove to refute truth with falsehood; but it was I who destroyed them. How terrible My punishment was!

6

وَكَذَلِكَwakadhālika
And thus
حَقَّتْḥaqqat
has been justified
كَلِمَتُkalimatu
(the) Word
رَبِّكَrabbika
(of) your Lord
عَلَىʿalā
against
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieved
أَنَّهُمْannahum
that they
أَصْحَابُaṣḥābu
(are) companions
النَّارِl-nāri
(of) the Fire.
In this way your Lord’s sentence was passed against the disbelievers that they would be the inhabitants of the Fire.

7

الَّذِينَalladhīna
Those who
يَحْمِلُونَyaḥmilūna
bear
الْعَرْشَl-ʿarsha
the Throne
وَمَنْwaman
and who
حَوْلَهُḥawlahu
(are) around it
يُسَبِّحُونَyusabbiḥūna
glorify
بِحَمْدِbiḥamdi
(the) praises
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
(of) their Lord
وَيُؤْمِنُونَwayu'minūna
and believe
بِهِbihi
in Him
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَwayastaghfirūna
and ask forgiveness
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīna
for those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe,
رَبَّنَاrabbanā
"Our Lord!
وَسِعْتَwasiʿ'ta
You encompass
كُلَّkulla
all
شَيْءٍshayin
things
رَحْمَةًraḥmatan
(by Your) Mercy
وَعِلْمًاwaʿil'man
and knowledge,
فَاغْفِرْfa-igh'fir
so forgive
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīna
those who
تَابُواtābū
repent
وَاتَّبَعُواwa-ittabaʿū
and follow
سَبِيلَكَsabīlaka
Your Way
وَقِهِمْwaqihim
and save them
عَذَابَʿadhāba
(the) punishment
الْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire.
Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those who surround it celebrate the praise of their Lord and have faith in Him. They beg forgiveness for the believers: ‘Our Lord, You embrace all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who turn to You and follow Your path. Save them from the pains of Hell

8

رَبَّنَاrabbanā
Our Lord!
وَأَدْخِلْهُمْwa-adkhil'hum
And admit them
جَنَّاتِjannāti
(to) Gardens
عَدْنٍʿadnin
(of) Eden
الَّتِيallatī
which
وَعَدْتَهُمْwaʿadttahum
You have promised them
وَمَنْwaman
and whoever
صَلَحَṣalaḥa
(was) righteous
مِنْmin
among
ءَابَائِهِمْābāihim
their fathers
وَأَزْوَاجِهِمْwa-azwājihim
and their spouses
وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْwadhurriyyātihim
and their offspring.
إِنَّكَinnaka
Indeed You,
أَنْتَanta
You
الْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu
(are) the All-Mighty,
الْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise.
and admit them, Lord, to the lasting Gardens You have promised to them, together with their righteous ancestors, spouses, and offspring: You alone are the Almighty, the All Wise.

9

وَقِهِمُwaqihimu
And protect them
السَّيِّئَاتِl-sayiāti
(from) the evils.
وَمَنْwaman
And whoever
تَقِtaqi
you protect
السَّيِّئَاتِl-sayiāti
(from) the evils
يَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhin
that Day,
فَقَدْfaqad
then verily
رَحِمْتَهُraḥim'tahu
You bestowed Mercy on him.
وَذَلِكَwadhālika
And that
هُوَhuwa
[it]
الْفَوْزُl-fawzu
(is) the success,
الْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmu
the great."
Protect them from all evil deeds: those You protect on that Day from [the punishment for] evil deeds will receive Your mercy- that is the supreme triumph.’

10

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieved
يُنَادَوْنَyunādawna
will be cried out to them,
لَمَقْتُlamaqtu
"Certainly Allah's hatred
اللَّهِl-lahi
"Certainly Allah's hatred
أَكْبَرُakbaru
(was) greater
مِنْmin
than
مَقْتِكُمْmaqtikum
your hatred
أَنْفُسَكُمْanfusakum
(of) yourselves
إِذْidh
when
تُدْعَوْنَtud'ʿawna
you were called
إِلَىilā
to
الْإِيمَانِl-īmāni
the faith,
فَتَكْفُرُونَfatakfurūna
and you disbelieved
But those who disbelieved will be told, ‘When you were called to the faith and rejected it, God’s disgust with you was even greater then than the self-disgust you feel [today].’
