تَنْزِيلٌtanzīlun
A revelation
مِنَmina
from
الرَّحْمَنِl-raḥmāni
the Most Gracious,
الرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmi
the Most Merciful,
A revelation from the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy;
3
كِتَابٌkitābun
A Book,
فُصِّلَتْfuṣṣilat
are detailed
ءَايَاتُهُāyātuhu
its Verses,
قُرْءَانًاqur'ānan
a Quran
عَرَبِيًّاʿarabiyyan
(in) Arabic
لِقَوْمٍliqawmin
for a people
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna
(who) know,
a Scripture whose verses are made distinct as a Quran in Arabic for people who understand,

بَشِيرًاbashīran
A giver of glad tidings
وَنَذِيرًاwanadhīran
and a warner;
فَأَعْرَضَfa-aʿraḍa
but turn away
أَكْثَرُهُمْaktharuhum
most of them,
فَهُمْfahum
so they
لَاlā
(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūna
hear.
giving good news and warning. Yet most of them turn away and so do not hear.

وَقَالُواwaqālū
And they say,
قُلُوبُنَاqulūbunā
"Our hearts
فِيfī
(are) in
أَكِنَّةٍakinnatin
coverings
مِمَّاmimmā
from what
تَدْعُونَاtadʿūnā
you call us
إِلَيْهِilayhi
to it,
وَفِيwafī
and in
ءَاذَانِنَاādhāninā
our ears
وَقْرٌwaqrun
(is) deafness,
وَمِنْwamin
and between us
بَيْنِنَاbayninā
and between us
وَبَيْنِكَwabaynika
and between you
حِجَابٌḥijābun
(is) a screen.
فَاعْمَلْfa-iʿ'mal
So work,
إِنَّنَاinnanā
indeed, we
عَامِلُونَʿāmilūna
(are) working."
They say, ‘Our hearts are encased against [the faith] you call us to; our ears are heavy; there is a barrier between us and you. So you do whatever you want, and so shall we.’

قُلْqul
Say,
إِنَّمَاinnamā
"Only
أَنَاanā
I am
بَشَرٌbasharun
a man
مِثْلُكُمْmith'lukum
like you,
يُوحَىyūḥā
it is revealed
إِلَيَّilayya
to me
أَنَّمَاannamā
that
إِلَهُكُمْilāhukum
your god
إِلَهٌilāhun
(is) God
وَاحِدٌwāḥidun
One;
فَاسْتَقِيمُواfa-is'taqīmū
so take a Straight Path
إِلَيْهِilayhi
to Him
وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُwa-is'taghfirūhu
and ask His forgiveness."
وَوَيْلٌwawaylun
And woe
لِلْمُشْرِكِينَlil'mush'rikīna
to the polytheists,
Say [Prophet], ‘I am only a mortal like you, [but] it has been revealed to me that your God is One. Take the straight path to Him and seek His forgiveness. Woe to the idolaters,

الَّذِينَalladhīna
Those who
لَاlā
(do) not
يُؤْتُونَyu'tūna
give
الزَّكَوةَl-zakata
the zakah,
وَهُمْwahum
and they
بِالْءَاخِرَةِbil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter
هُمْhum
they
كَافِرُونَkāfirūna
(are) disbelievers.
who do not pay the prescribed alms and refuse to believe in the world to come!

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُواwaʿamilū
and do
الصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds,
لَهُمْlahum
for them
أَجْرٌajrun
(is) a reward
غَيْرُghayru
never ending.
مَمْنُونٍmamnūnin
never ending.
Those who believe and do good deeds will have a reward that never fails.’

قُلْqul
Say,
أَئِنَّكُمْa-innakum
"Do you indeed
لَتَكْفُرُونَlatakfurūna
[surely] disbelieve
بِالَّذِيbi-alladhī
in the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqa
created
الْأَرْضَl-arḍa
the earth
فِيfī
in
يَوْمَيْنِyawmayni
two periods
وَتَجْعَلُونَwatajʿalūna
and you set up
لَهُlahu
with Him
أَنْدَادًاandādan
rivals?
ذَلِكَdhālika
That
رَبُّrabbu
(is the) Lord
الْعَالَمِينَl-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds."
Say, ‘How can you disregard the One who created the earth in two Days? How can you set up other gods as His equals? He is the Lord of all the worlds!’

وَجَعَلَwajaʿala
And He placed
فِيهَاfīhā
therein
رَوَاسِيَrawāsiya
firmly-set mountains
مِنْmin
above it
فَوْقِهَاfawqihā
above it
وَبَارَكَwabāraka
and He blessed
فِيهَاfīhā
therein,
وَقَدَّرَwaqaddara
and determined
فِيهَاfīhā
therein
أَقْوَاتَهَاaqwātahā
its sustenance
فِيfī
in
أَرْبَعَةِarbaʿati
four
أَيَّامٍayyāmin
periods
سَوَاءًsawāan
equal,
لِلسَّائِلِينَlilssāilīna
for those who ask.
He placed solid mountains on it, blessed it, measured out its varied provisions for all who seek them––all in four Days.
