Surah Memorizer Beta

Muhammad

1

الَّذِينَalladhīna
Those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve
وَصَدُّواwaṣaddū
and turn away
عَنْʿan
from
سَبِيلِsabīli
(the) way of Allah,
اللَّهِl-lahi
(the) way of Allah,
أَضَلَّaḍalla
He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahum
their deeds.
God will bring to nothing the deeds of those who disbelieve and bar others from the way of God,

2

وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
And those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe
وَعَمِلُواwaʿamilū
and do
الصَّالِحَاتِl-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds,
وَءَامَنُواwaāmanū
and believe
بِمَاbimā
in what
نُزِّلَnuzzila
is revealed
عَلَىʿalā
to
مُحَمَّدٍmuḥammadin
Muhammad,
وَهُوَwahuwa
and it
الْحَقُّl-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
مِنْmin
from
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
their Lord,
كَفَّرَkaffara
He will remove
عَنْهُمْʿanhum
from them
سَيِّئَاتِهِمْsayyiātihim
their misdeeds,
وَأَصْلَحَwa-aṣlaḥa
and improve
بَالَهُمْbālahum
their condition.
but He will overlook the bad deeds of those who have faith, do good deeds, and believe in what has been sent down to Muhammad––the truth from their Lord––and He will put them into a good state.

3

ذَلِكَdhālika
That
بِأَنَّbi-anna
(is) because
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve
اتَّبَعُواittabaʿū
follow
الْبَاطِلَl-bāṭila
falsehood
وَأَنَّwa-anna
and that
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
ءَامَنُواāmanū
believe
اتَّبَعُواittabaʿū
follow
الْحَقَّl-ḥaqa
(the) truth
مِنْmin
from
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
their Lord.
كَذَلِكَkadhālika
Thus
يَضْرِبُyaḍribu
Allah presents
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah presents
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsi
to the people
أَمْثَالَهُمْamthālahum
their similitudes.
This is because the disbelievers follow falsehood, while the believers follow the truth from their Lord. In this way God shows people their true type.

4

فَإِذَاfa-idhā
So when
لَقِيتُمُlaqītumu
you meet
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve,
فَضَرْبَfaḍarba
then strike
الرِّقَابِl-riqābi
the necks
حَتَّىḥattā
until
إِذَاidhā
when
أَثْخَنْتُمُوهُمْathkhantumūhum
you have subdued
فَشُدُّواfashuddū
then bind firmly
الْوَثَاقَl-wathāqa
the bond,
فَإِمَّاfa-immā
then either
مَنًّاmannan
a favor
بَعْدُbaʿdu
afterwards
وَإِمَّاwa-immā
or
فِدَاءًfidāan
ransom
حَتَّىḥattā
until
تَضَعَtaḍaʿa
lays down
الْحَرْبُl-ḥarbu
the war
أَوْزَارَهَاawzārahā
its burdens.
ذَلِكَdhālika
That.
وَلَوْwalaw
And if
يَشَاءُyashāu
Allah had willed
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah had willed
لَانْتَصَرَla-intaṣara
surely, He could have taken retribution
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
from them,
وَلَكِنْwalākin
but
لِيَبْلُوَاliyabluwā
to test
بَعْضَكُمْbaʿḍakum
some of you
بِبَعْضٍbibaʿḍin
with others.
وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
And those who
قُتِلُواqutilū
are killed
فِي
in
سَبِيلِsabīli
(the) way of Allah,
اللَّهِl-lahi
(the) way of Allah,
فَلَنْfalan
then never
يُضِلَّyuḍilla
He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahum
their deeds.
When you meet the disbelievers in battle, strike them in the neck, and once they are defeated, bind any captives firmly––later you can release them by grace or by ransom––until the toils of war have ended. That [is the way]. God could have defeated them Himself if He had willed, but His purpose is to test some of you by means of others. He will not let the deeds of those who are killed for His cause come to nothing;

5

سَيَهْدِيهِمْsayahdīhim
He will guide them
وَيُصْلِحُwayuṣ'liḥu
and improve
بَالَهُمْbālahum
their condition,
He will guide them and put them into a good state;

6

وَيُدْخِلُهُمُwayud'khiluhumu
And admit them
الْجَنَّةَl-janata
(to) Paradise,
عَرَّفَهَاʿarrafahā
He has made it known
لَهُمْlahum
to them.
He will admit them into the Garden He has already made known to them.

7

يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā
O you who believe!
الَّذِينَalladhīna
O you who believe!
ءَامَنُواāmanū
O you who believe!
إِنْin
If
تَنْصُرُواtanṣurū
you help
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah,
يَنْصُرْكُمْyanṣur'kum
He will help you
وَيُثَبِّتْwayuthabbit
and make firm
أَقْدَامَكُمْaqdāmakum
your feet.
You who believe! If you help God, He will help you and make you stand firm.

8

وَالَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
But those who
كَفَرُواkafarū
disbelieve,
فَتَعْسًاfataʿsan
destruction (is)
لَهُمْlahum
for them,
وَأَضَلَّwa-aḍalla
and He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahum
their deeds.
As for the disbelievers, how wretched will be their state! God has brought their deeds to nothing.

9

ذَلِكَdhālika
That
بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum
(is) because they
كَرِهُواkarihū
hate
مَا
what
أَنْزَلَanzala
Allah has revealed,
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah has revealed,
فَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭa
so He has made worthless
أَعْمَالَهُمْaʿmālahum
their deeds.
It is because they hate what God has sent down that He has caused their deeds to go to waste.

10

أَفَلَمْafalam
Do not
يَسِيرُواyasīrū
they travel
فِي
in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the earth
فَيَنْظُرُواfayanẓurū
and see
كَيْفَkayfa
how
كَانَkāna
was
عَاقِبَةُʿāqibatu
(the) end
الَّذِينَalladhīna
(of) those
مِنْmin
before them?
قَبْلِهِمْqablihim
before them?
دَمَّرَdammara
Allah destroyed
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim
[over] them,
وَلِلْكَافِرِينَwalil'kāfirīna
and for the disbelievers
أَمْثَالُهَاamthāluhā
its likeness.
Have they not travelled the earth and seen how those before them met their end? God destroyed them utterly: a similar fate awaits the disbelievers.
