As-Saff

1

سَبَّحَsabbaḥa
Glorifies
لِلَّهِlillahi
Allah
مَاmā
whatever
فِيfī
(is) in
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
the heavens
وَمَاwamā
and whatever
فِيfī
(is) in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the earth.
وَهُوَwahuwa
And He
الْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu
(is) the All-Mighty,
الْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmu
the All-Wise.
Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies God––He is the Almighty, the Wise.

يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā
O you who believe!
الَّذِينَalladhīna
O you who believe!
ءَامَنُواāmanū
O you who believe!
لِمَlima
Why
تَقُولُونَtaqūlūna
(do) you say
مَاmā
what
لَاlā
you do not do?
تَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūna
you do not do?
You who believe, why do you say things and then do not do them?

كَبُرَkabura
Great is
مَقْتًاmaqtan
hatred
عِنْدَʿinda
with
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
أَنْan
that
تَقُولُواtaqūlū
you say
مَاmā
what
لَاlā
you do not do?
تَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūna
you do not do?
It is most hateful to God that you say things and then do not do them;

إِنَّinna
Indeed,
اللَّهَl-laha
Allah
يُحِبُّyuḥibbu
loves
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
يُقَاتِلُونَyuqātilūna
fight
فِيfī
in
سَبِيلِهِsabīlihi
His Way
صَفًّاṣaffan
(in) a row
كَأَنَّهُمْka-annahum
as if they
بُنْيَانٌbun'yānun
(were) a structure
مَرْصُوصٌmarṣūṣun
joined firmly.
God truly loves those who fight in solid lines for His cause, like a well-compacted wall.

وَإِذْwa-idh
And when
قَالَqāla
said
مُوسَىmūsā
Musa
لِقَوْمِهِliqawmihi
to his people,
يَاقَوْمِyāqawmi
"O my people!
لِمَlima
Why
تُؤْذُونَنِيtu'dhūnanī
do you hurt me
وَقَدْwaqad
while certainly
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna
you know
أَنِّيannī
that I am
رَسُولُrasūlu
(the) Messenger of Allah
اللَّهِl-lahi
(the) Messenger of Allah
إِلَيْكُمْilaykum
to you?"
فَلَمَّاfalammā
Then when
زَاغُواzāghū
they deviated,
أَزَاغَazāgha
Allah caused to
اللَّهُl-lahu
Allah caused to
قُلُوبَهُمْqulūbahum
their hearts.
وَاللَّهُwal-lahu
And Allah
لَاlā
(does) not
يَهْدِيyahdī
guide
الْقَوْمَl-qawma
the people,
الْفَاسِقِينَl-fāsiqīna
the defiantly disobedient.
Moses said to his people, ‘My people, why do you hurt me when you know that I am sent to you by God?’ When they went astray, God left their hearts to stray: God does not guide rebellious people.

وَإِذْwa-idh
And when
قَالَqāla
said
عِيسَىʿīsā
Isa,
ابْنُub'nu
son
مَرْيَمَmaryama
(of) Maryam,
يَابَنِيyābanī
"O Children of Israel!
إِسْرَاءِيلَis'rāīla
"O Children of Israel!
إِنِّيinnī
Indeed, I am
رَسُولُrasūlu
(the) Messenger of Allah
اللَّهِl-lahi
(the) Messenger of Allah
إِلَيْكُمْilaykum
to you,
مُصَدِّقًاmuṣaddiqan
confirming
لِمَاlimā
that which
بَيْنَbayna
(was) before me
يَدَيَّyadayya
(was) before me
مِنَmina
of
التَّوْرَاةِl-tawrāti
the Taurat
وَمُبَشِّرًاwamubashiran
and bringer of glad
بِرَسُولٍbirasūlin
(of) a Messenger
يَأْتِيyatī
to come
مِنْmin
after me,
بَعْدِيbaʿdī
after me,
اسْمُهُus'muhu
whose name (will be)
أَحْمَدُaḥmadu
Ahmad"
فَلَمَّاfalammā
But when
جَاءَهُمْjāahum
he came to them
بِالْبَيِّنَاتِbil-bayināti
with clear proofs,
قَالُواqālū
they said,
هَذَاhādhā
"This
سِحْرٌsiḥ'run
(is) a magic
مُبِينٌmubīnun
clear."
Jesus, son of Mary, said, ‘Children of Israel, I am sent to you by God, confirming the Torah that came before me and bringing good news of a messenger to follow me whose name will be Ahmad.’ Yet when he came to them with clear signs, they said, ‘This is obviously sorcery.’

وَمَنْwaman
And who
أَظْلَمُaẓlamu
(is) more wrong
مِمَّنِmimmani
than (one) who
افْتَرَىif'tarā
invents
عَلَىʿalā
upon
اللَّهِl-lahi
Allah
الْكَذِبَl-kadhiba
the lie
وَهُوَwahuwa
while he
يُدْعَىyud'ʿā
is invited
إِلَىilā
to
الْإِسْلَامِl-is'lāmi
Islam?
وَاللَّهُwal-lahu
And Allah
لَاlā
(does) not
يَهْدِيyahdī
guide
الْقَوْمَl-qawma
the people
الظَّالِمِينَl-ẓālimīna
[the] wrongdoers.
Who could be more wrong than someone who invents lies against God when called to submit to Him? God does not guide the wrongdoers:

يُرِيدُونَyurīdūna
They intend
لِيُطْفِءُواliyuṭ'fiū
to put out
نُورَnūra
(the) light
اللَّهِl-lahi
(of) Allah
بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْbi-afwāhihim
with their mouths,
وَاللَّهُwal-lahu
but Allah
مُتِمُّmutimmu
will perfect
نُورِهِnūrihi
His Light
وَلَوْwalaw
although
كَرِهَkariha
dislike
الْكَافِرُونَl-kāfirūna
the disbelievers.
they wish to put His light out with their mouths. But He will perfect His light, even though the disbelievers hate it;

هُوَhuwa
He
الَّذِيalladhī
(is) the One Who
أَرْسَلَarsala
sent
رَسُولَهُrasūlahu
His Messenger
بِالْهُدَىbil-hudā
with guidance
وَدِينِwadīni
and (the) religion
الْحَقِّl-ḥaqi
(of) the truth,
لِيُظْهِرَهُliyuẓ'hirahu
to make it prevail
عَلَىʿalā
over
الدِّينِl-dīni
the religion
كُلِّهِkullihi
all of them,
وَلَوْwalaw
although
كَرِهَkariha
dislike (it)
الْمُشْرِكُونَl-mush'rikūna
the polytheists.
it is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to show that it is above all [other] religions, even though the idolaters hate it.

يَاأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā
O you who believe!
الَّذِينَalladhīna
O you who believe!
ءَامَنُواāmanū
O you who believe!
هَلْhal
Shall
أَدُلُّكُمْadullukum
I guide you
عَلَىʿalā
to
تِجَارَةٍtijāratin
a transaction
تُنْجِيكُمْtunjīkum
(that) will save you
مِنْmin
from
عَذَابٍʿadhābin
a punishment
أَلِيمٍalīmin
painful?
You who believe, shall I show you a bargain that will save you from painful torment?
