كِتَابٌkitābun
A Book
أُنْزِلَunzila
revealed
إِلَيْكَilayka
to you
فَلَاfalā
so (let) not
يَكُنْyakun
be
فِيfī
in
صَدْرِكَṣadrika
your breast
حَرَجٌḥarajun
any uneasiness
مِنْهُmin'hu
from it
لِتُنْذِرَlitundhira
that you warn
بِهِbihi
with it,
وَذِكْرَىwadhik'rā
and a reminder
لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīna
for the believers.
This Book has been sent down to you [Prophet]––let there be no anxiety in your heart because of it––so that you may use it to give warning and to remind the believers:
3
اتَّبِعُواittabiʿū
Follow
مَاmā
what
أُنْزِلَunzila
has been revealed
إِلَيْكُمْilaykum
to you
مِنْmin
from
رَبِّكُمْrabbikum
your Lord,
وَلَاwalā
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعُواtattabiʿū
follow
مِنْmin
besides Him
دُونِهِdūnihi
besides Him
أَوْلِيَاءَawliyāa
any allies.
قَلِيلًاqalīlan
Little
مَاmā
(is) what
تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūna
you remember.
‘Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord; do not follow other masters beside Him. How seldom you take heed!’
4
وَكَمْwakam
And how many
مِنْmin
of
قَرْيَةٍqaryatin
a city
أَهْلَكْنَاهَاahlaknāhā
We destroyed it,
فَجَاءَهَاfajāahā
and came to it
بَأْسُنَاbasunā
Our punishment
بَيَاتًاbayātan
(at) night
أَوْaw
or
هُمْhum
(while) they
قَائِلُونَqāilūna
were sleeping at noon.
How many towns We have destroyed! Our punishment came to them by night or while they slept in the afternoon:
5
فَمَاfamā
Then not
كَانَkāna
was
دَعْوَاهُمْdaʿwāhum
their plea
إِذْidh
when
جَاءَهُمْjāahum
came to them
بَأْسُنَاbasunā
Our punishment
إِلَّاillā
except
أَنْan
that
قَالُواqālū
they said,
إِنَّاinnā
"Indeed, we
كُنَّاkunnā
were
ظَالِمِينَẓālimīna
wrongdoers."
their only cry when Our punishment came to them was, ‘How wrong we were!’
6
فَلَنَسْءَلَنَّfalanasalanna
Then surely We will question
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those (to) whom
أُرْسِلَur'sila
were sent
إِلَيْهِمْilayhim
to them (Messengers),
وَلَنَسْءَلَنَّwalanasalanna
and surely We will question
الْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīna
the Messengers.
We shall certainly question those to whom messengers were sent–– and We shall question the messengers themselves––
7
فَلَنَقُصَّنَّfalanaquṣṣanna
Then surely We will narrate
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim
to them
بِعِلْمٍbiʿil'min
with knowledge,
وَمَاwamā
and not
كُنَّاkunnā
We
غَائِبِينَghāibīna
absent.
and, with full knowledge, for We were never far from them, We shall tell them what they did.
8
وَالْوَزْنُwal-waznu
And the weighing
يَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhin
that day
الْحَقُّl-ḥaqu
(will be) the truth.
فَمَنْfaman
So whose -
ثَقُلَتْthaqulat
(will be) heavy
مَوَازِينُهُmawāzīnuhu
his scales,
فَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāika
then those
هُمُhumu
[they]
الْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna
(will be) the successful ones.
On that Day the weighing of deeds will be true and just: those whose good deeds are heavy on the scales will be the ones to prosper,
9
وَمَنْwaman
And (for) those
خَفَّتْkhaffat
(will be) light
مَوَازِينُهُmawāzīnuhu
his scales,
فَأُولَئِكَfa-ulāika
so those
الَّذِينَalladhīna
(will be) the ones who
خَسِرُواkhasirū
lost,
أَنْفُسَهُمْanfusahum
themselves
بِمَاbimā
because
كَانُواkānū
they were
بِءَايَاتِنَاbiāyātinā
to Our Verses
يَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūna
(doing) injustice.
and those whose good deeds are light will be the ones who have lost their souls through their wrongful rejection of Our messages.
10
وَلَقَدْwalaqad
And certainly
مَكَّنَّاكُمْmakkannākum
We established you
فِيfī
in
الْأَرْضِl-arḍi
the earth
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnā
and We made
لَكُمْlakum
for you
فِيهَاfīhā
in it
مَعَايِشَmaʿāyisha
livelihood.
قَلِيلًاqalīlan
Little
مَاmā
(is) what
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūna
you (are) grateful.
We established you [people] on the earth and provided you with a means of livelihood there––small thanks you give!
