إِنِّيinnī
Indeed, I am
لَكُمْlakum

نَذِيرٌnadhīrun
a warner
مُبِينٌmubīnun
clear.
And so he said, ‘My people, I am here to warn you plainly.

قَالَqāla
He said,
رَبِّrabbi
"My Lord!
إِنِّيinnī
Indeed, I
دَعَوْتُdaʿawtu
invited
قَوْمِيqawmī
my people
لَيْلًاlaylan
night
وَنَهَارًاwanahāran
and day.
He said, ‘My Lord, I have called my people night and day,
6
فَلَمْfalam
But not
يَزِدْهُمْyazid'hum
increased them
دُعَاءِيduʿāī
my invitation
إِلَّاillā
except
فِرَارًاfirāran
(in) flight.
but the more I call them, the further they run away:
7
وَإِنِّيwa-innī
And indeed, I
كُلَّمَاkullamā
every time,
دَعَوْتُهُمْdaʿawtuhum
I invited them
لِتَغْفِرَlitaghfira
that You may forgive
لَهُمْlahum
them,
جَعَلُواjaʿalū
they put
أَصَابِعَهُمْaṣābiʿahum
their fingers
فِيfī
in
ءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihim
their ears
وَاسْتَغْشَوْاwa-is'taghshaw
and covered themselves
ثِيَابَهُمْthiyābahum
(with) their garments
وَأَصَرُّواwa-aṣarrū
and persisted
وَاسْتَكْبَرُواwa-is'takbarū
and were arrogant
اسْتِكْبَارًاis'tik'bāran
(with) pride.
every time I call them, so that You may forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, cover their heads with their garments, persist in their rejection, and grow more insolent and arrogant.

ثُمَّthumma
Then
إِنِّيinnī
indeed, I
دَعَوْتُهُمْdaʿawtuhum
invited them
جِهَارًاjihāran
publicly.
I have tried calling them openly.
9
ثُمَّthumma
Then
إِنِّيinnī
indeed, I
أَعْلَنْتُaʿlantu
announced
لَهُمْlahum
to them
وَأَسْرَرْتُwa-asrartu
and I confided
لَهُمْlahum
to them
إِسْرَارًاis'rāran
secretly,
I have tried preaching to them in public and speaking to them in private.
10
فَقُلْتُfaqul'tu
Then I said,
اسْتَغْفِرُواis'taghfirū
"Ask forgiveness
رَبَّكُمْrabbakum
(from) your Lord.
إِنَّهُinnahu
Indeed, He
كَانَkāna
is
غَفَّارًاghaffāran
Oft-Forgiving.
I said, “Ask forgiveness of your Lord: He is ever forgiving.
