He frowned
وَتَوَلَّىwatawallā
and turned away,

أَنْan
Because
جَاءَهُjāahu
came to him
الْأَعْمَىl-aʿmā
the blind man.
when the blind man came to him––
3
وَمَاwamā
But what
يُدْرِيكَyud'rīka
would make you know
لَعَلَّهُlaʿallahu
that he might
يَزَّكَّىyazzakkā
purify himself,
for all you know, he might have grown in spirit,
4
أَوْaw
Or
يَذَّكَّرُyadhakkaru
be reminded
فَتَنْفَعَهُfatanfaʿahu
so would benefit him
الذِّكْرَىl-dhik'rā
the reminder?
or taken note of something useful to him.
5
أَمَّاammā
As for
مَنِmani
(him) who
اسْتَغْنَىis'taghnā
considers himself free from need,

فَأَنْتَfa-anta
So you
لَهُlahu
to him
تَصَدَّىtaṣaddā
give attention.
you go out of your way––
7
وَمَاwamā
And not
عَلَيْكَʿalayka
upon you
أَلَّاallā
that not
يَزَّكَّىyazzakkā
he purifies himself.
though you are not to be blamed for his lack of spiritual growth––
8
وَأَمَّاwa-ammā
But as for
مَنْman
(he) who
جَاءَكَjāaka
came to you
يَسْعَىyasʿā
striving,
but from the one who has come to you full of eagerness
9
وَهُوَwahuwa
While he
يَخْشَىyakhshā
fears,
and awe
10
فَأَنْتَfa-anta
But you
عَنْهُʿanhu
from
تَلَهَّىtalahhā
(are) distracted.
you allow yourself to be distracted.
