Al-Buruj
1
وَالسَّمَاءِwal-samāi
By the sky,
ذَاتِdhāti
containing
الْبُرُوجِl-burūji
the constellations,
By the sky with its towering constellations,
2
وَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmi
And the Day
الْمَوْعُودِl-mawʿūdi
Promised,
by the promised Day,
3
وَشَاهِدٍwashāhidin
And (the) witness
وَمَشْهُودٍwamashhūdin
and what is witnessed,
by the Witness and that which is witnessed,
4
قُتِلَqutila
Destroyed were
أَصْحَابُaṣḥābu
(the) companions
الْأُخْدُودِl-ukh'dūdi
(of) the pit,
damned were the makers of the trench,
5
النَّارِal-nāri
(Of) the fire
ذَاتِdhāti
full
الْوَقُودِl-waqūdi
(of) the fuel,
the makers of the fuel-stoked fire!

إِذْidh
When
هُمْhum
they
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhā
by it
قُعُودٌquʿūdun
(were) sitting,
They sat down
7
وَهُمْwahum
And they
عَلَىʿalā
over
مَاmā
what
يَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūna
they were doing
بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَbil-mu'minīna
to the believers
شُهُودٌshuhūdun
witnesses.
to watch what they were doing to the believers.

وَمَاwamā
And not
نَقَمُواnaqamū
they resented
مِنْهُمْmin'hum
[of] them
إِلَّاillā
except
أَنْan
that
يُؤْمِنُواyu'minū
they believed
بِاللَّهِbil-lahi
in Allah
الْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi
the All-Mighty,
الْحَمِيدِl-ḥamīdi
the Praiseworthy,
Their only grievance against them was their faith in God, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy,
9
الَّذِيalladhī
The One Who,
لَهُlahu
for Him
مُلْكُmul'ku
(is) the dominion
السَّمَاوَاتِl-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
وَالْأَرْضِwal-arḍi
and the earth;
وَاللَّهُwal-lahu
and Allah
عَلَىʿalā
on
كُلِّkulli
every
شَيْءٍshayin
thing
شَهِيدٌshahīdun
(is) a Witness.
to whom all control over the heavens and earth belongs: God is witness over all things.
10
إِنَّinna
Indeed,
الَّذِينَalladhīna
those who
فَتَنُواfatanū
persecuted
الْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna
the believing men
وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِwal-mu'mināti
and the believing women,
ثُمَّthumma
then
لَمْlam
not
يَتُوبُواyatūbū
they repented,
فَلَهُمْfalahum
then for them
عَذَابُʿadhābu
(is the) punishment
جَهَنَّمَjahannama
(of) Hell
وَلَهُمْwalahum
and for them
عَذَابُʿadhābu
(is the) punishment
الْحَرِيقِl-ḥarīqi
(of) the Burning Fire.
For those who persecute believing men and women, and do not repent afterwards, there will be the torment of Hell and burning.
